Focus on the Finish

The Christian life is a journey, not a sprint. While faith initiates our walk with Christ and fortitude sustains us through challenges, it’s focus that enables us to finish strong. This message explores the crucial role of maintaining focus in the Christian journey, emphasizing the need to keep our eyes fixed on the eternal rather than the fleeting distractions of the world.

We often hear it’s about the journey, not the destination. While the journey is indeed important, knowing our destination—heaven and the will of God—gives our journey purpose and direction. Just as a runner focuses on the finish line, Christians must maintain focus on their ultimate goal. This means letting go of past failures and successes, adopting an “end zone mentality” of striving for God’s best in every aspect of our lives.

Unfortunately, many things can distract us from our focus. We see examples in the Bible of individuals like Jonah, Samson, and Solomon who lost their focus and faced dire consequences. We must be vigilant against these distractions, both internal and external, recognizing that Satan seeks to derail our faith.

A key element of maintaining focus is prioritizing the eternal over the temporal. We are called to impact our families for Christ, influence our friends, and leave a lasting imprint on the future. This requires a conscious effort to resist the allure of worldly pursuits and fix our gaze on the eternal promises of God.

Finally, we must focus on finishing the work God has given us. This may involve grand callings or the seemingly mundane tasks of everyday life. Whether it’s being a godly spouse, raising children in a Christ-centered home, or serving in a specific ministry, every task performed with a focus on God’s purpose contributes to our overall journey of faith.

The Christian life is a marathon, not a sprint. By maintaining our focus on God, prioritizing the eternal, and diligently working to complete the tasks He has set before us, we can run with perseverance and finish the race strong.
