This morning we are seeing the angelic revelation to Joseph. God chose Matthew to reveal this account. This is Levi the tax collector. We saw that Luke’s Gospel was written with the Greeks in mind. Matthew’s Gospel was clearly written to convince the Jews that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised Messiah. Matthew’s Gospel is filled with references to the Old Testament which are given as proofs. That Jesus chose a former tax collector is itself astounding (18). The two key words are “after” and “before.” Joseph knew that he was not the father.
